Classification, loosely, is a process in which ideas, objects, images and information are recognised, differentiated, understood and sorted to enable the end user to properly identify the content they listen to and see. Classification takes place in our everyday lives, when we sort through oranges at a supermarket and differentiate between the good and the poor – we are essentially classifying them. We use our judgement to accurately model the object or material to objectively ascertain it's content and whether we should 'proceed' with this particular 'orange' or not. In much the same way, content you see on a website fits into a specific classification that helps us deduce an understanding of what we are viewing or interpreting.
